Introducing 'Therapeutic Faith Community'
As well as being a faith community CCD is also a therapeutic community (TC), a community within a community.
A TC is a community that seeks to help people on their therapeutic journey by creating a safe place for them to do so. In Christ Church Deal this help is structured by teaching in workshops, mentoring of one another through difficult issues, and teaching people to learn deeper relationships. TC's have a modern history going back to the late 1940's.
Central to both the Christian faith and TC's, is the belief that people can change. But to do so they must have an environment that promotes this process. This is the creating of a strong sense of belonging alongside a positive motivation to become more of the person they were created to be.
The 'Community of Communities' Project
But CCD is also a member of the ‘Community of Communities' project. This is a quality network co-operative research project between the ATC and the Royal College of Psychiatrists Research Unit (CRU).
The Community of Communities project is a systematic quality improvement process that incorporates peer and self reviews of practice standards and their implementing within TC's. At present 62 TC's are involved in this research programme.

Some of our features
We have several interesting features. Within our faith community we also run a
therapeutic community for people with compulsive disorder, personality disorder and other types of emotional illness. But through our Rapha workshops, our books and our CD’s we teach a range of tools able to help both Christians and the un-churched let go of their toxic pasts, and move closer to Jesus. For more information on these workshops, books and CDs visit www.lifegivingtrust.org
